About chihuahuas

Chihuahuas make good house dogs, they are not an outside dog. Chihuahuas love the heat and we see them laying out in the sun on the pavement Where we live it gets to 110 degrees. At night they love to sleep under the blankets, even in the summer. Chihuahuas don't have much body fat so you must keep an eye on them if the temperature gets below about 60. Having a low amount of body fat also means that they need food in their dish at all times, else they could run low on blood sugar.

Chihuahua make good travelers but don't leave them in the car with the windows up. They will stay in the car and not wander off like so many other dogs. We generally fix them up with a dog harness when we go somewhere.

Don't feed them people food. A single slice of bacon has an entire day of calories for a pet this small. We feed them dry Purina and for an occasional treat or to get them to do tricks, we will give them a spoonful of canned puppy food.

It is poisonous to any dog. If you drop some stomp your foot then grab it before the dog does.

The chihuahuas all have such different personalities. Lippy is a timid little dog that loves to climb up around your neck and lick you on the cheek. When she is not with you she is generally hiding. Lucy on the other hand is just as small but is not timid at all. She will leap up and down in front of me and bark to get my attention. If that don't work she will jump up in my lap and slap me on the chest with her paws.
